For those that believe in a "theistic evolution"?

I personally believe in no God whatsoever, but you could think of it this way: why would God really care about each individual species that ever arose? If he's uninvolved enough to let the laws of the observable universe take their course, then why would he suddenly step in and prevent extinctions and mess up evolution's mechanism.
