Help with buying a sewing machine to suit what i want to make?

i am considering buyin a sewing machine to make my own curtains and bedding maybe some items of clothing,i am on a tight budget and i have used a sewing machine b4 but it was in school lol many years ago, do u get a sewing machine that sews on patterns and what is it called?? i dont want a hugh fancy one just a simple one any ideas ????
